A surprise attraction in the Lalbagh Flower Show during Aug 2015 was the sand art of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. It was a tribute to the People’s President.

Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India who started his career as a scientist. He was popularly known as Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He was a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.
Dr. Kalam was in Shillong to deliver a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, he died due to cardiac arrest there.
Dr.Kalam believed the “respect for other faiths” was one of the key corner stone
of Islam, he was fond of say: “For men, religion is a way of making friends;
small people make religion as fighting tool.”
